Let me just say off the bat that i have never played the first Dead Space game. I did not play it because it was on a system that i did not own at the time, and it’s genre was one that i didn’t get much play time with. When i heard that this title was going to be an “On rails” shooter, i figured I’d give it a shot. However, calling this game an on rails shooter is sorely underwhelming, as it’s much more than that.
First off, no on rails shooter game has ever had this much depth. There are plenty of actions your character can do aside from just shoot. You can use kinesis to pull items towards you as well as move debris to get by. Turning the Wiimote sideways actives a secondary firing mode, where you charge your shot with the B button. Other game play functions include zero gravity, melee attacks, stasis and dismemberment.

The game is a prequel to the first game. The story is about a group of colonists from the Aegis VII colony doing battle against the necromorphs, which were created when the red marker is removed. These creatures are basically re-animated and mutated corpses of humans. They serve as the main enemies of the game.
The game does not have much replay value, but there is a co-op mode, as well as a few unlockables to entertain you. The “Issues” are cinematics that fill you in on much of the story and characters. The challenge involved is much greater than any on rails shooter before it, and i highly recommend it to any fan of first person shooter games, as it feels more like an FPS than anything.
